Dr. Robert Cheney is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is fellowship-trained in spine, the highest level of medical training available. At Capital Region Spine, Dr. Cheney is involved with the assessment and treatment of a wide spectrum of back and neck problems, including disc and facet-related spine symptoms and scoliosis. He is proficient with the latest spine surgery techniques and minimally invasive approaches that reduce the size of incisions and enable patients to have spine surgery and be home later the same day.   

Dr. Cheney received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. His postgraduate work included an internship at Maine Medical Center's Department of Surgery. He completed his residency training at Akron General Medical Center and Children's Medical Center at Hospital of Akron. He completed his fellowship at the prestigious William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan, within the spine division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Cheney joined the Capital Region Orthopaedic Group in 1996.

Dr. Cheney is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is an associate clinical instructor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Cheney has numerous memberships in professional societies and is affiliated with the following groups:
