Dr. Lawrence joined Capital Region Spine in 2008. He is a specialist in complex and minimally invasive surgery of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He completed his residency in Orthopaedics at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a fellowship in Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spine Surgery at the renowned Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Albany Medical College and attending spinal surgeon at Capital Region Spine. His training and experience is extensive in the treatment of traumatic spine and spinal cord injuries, degenerative conditions of the cervical and thoracolumbar spine, spinal tumors and infections. He has published articles in the major journals of Spine, The Spine Journal, The Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine and others on topics including spinal trauma and emerging technologies in spinal care. He has authored chapters in many of the major textbooks of spinal surgery and has presented award-winning research both nationally and internationally. His current research interests include spinal cord injuries, patient outcomes after spinal surgery, and factors affecting the health and viability of the intervertebral disk. His areas of clinical expertise include management of cervical spine disorders, lumbar herniated disks and spinal stenosis, the use of minimally invasive techniques in spine surgery, and adult and pediatric spinal deformity surgery.
